Lightning Talks

Are you interested in presenting on a topic at the SLA Annual Conference? Do you have expertise to share with attendees? Submit a proposal for a Lightning Talk!

Lightning Talk presenters will receive a discounted registration rate of $395 for the conference.*

Lightning Talks are dynamic five minute presentations that take place as part of conference education programming. We encourage proposals on any topic relevant to specialized librarians and information professionals. Presentations should be educational in nature and should not be used to promote a product or company. The goal of lightning talks is to articulate a topic in a quick, insightful, and clear manner. These concise and efficient talks are intended to grab the attention of the audience, convey key information, and allow for several presenters to share their ideas in a brief period of time.

Submissions will be reviewed by the SLA Annual Conference Advisory Council and selection results will be sent out by April 23. The review committee will select the proposals most relevant, timely, and appropriate for the conference. Please contact with any questions.

The new deadline for submissions is Wednesday, April 8 at 11:59 pm EST.

- AV equipment will be available to show presentation slides but presenters are not required to use slides. For those showing slides, presenters are discouraged from reading the slides.

- The proposal submission form will ask for presenter contact information, a short description of your presentation and explanation for why the topic is relevant for information professionals, and a short blurb that could be used to promote your presentation on social media.

- A limited number of speaking slots are available.

- Lightning Talks will take place as a series during a 60 minute session.

*A registration discount code will be sent out following the selection process. Those submitting a proposal should not register for the conference until you receive confirmation.
