The October 8, 2021 webinar hosted by the Special Library Association Academic & Education Community and ACRL's EBSS Education Committee featured Leah Plocharczyk who discussed services and programs to students with intellectual disabilities (ID), highlighting book clubs. Attendes learned how to develop and sustain a book club that includes adults with intellectual disabilities, assess the success of the club with evaluative tools and make necessary improvements, and analyze useful resources and tools one can access to assist with the successful marketing of a book club for adults with ID
Leah Plocharczyk is the Director of the John D. MacArthur Campus Library at Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) Jupiter campus, where she oversees all aspects of the library’s operations. She has published articles on library collaboration with marine mammal stranding networks and conflict management within libraries. She co-authored a book about the importance of library book clubs as educational tools for adults with ID. She was a 2020 recipient of ALA’s “I Love My Librarian” award.
