SLA New England Tour of Yale Libraries on Friday 7/21

By Kelli Costello posted 07-11-2023 18:05

Join SLA New England for a day at Yale University on Friday, July 21. We will tour several libraries, including the Beinecke Library, Sterling Memorial Library's Nave, and the Medical Library. Attendees are invited to finish their day after the program's conclusion at the Yale Art Gallery. At the Beinecke, we will see a 1,250-year-old print of Buddhist prayers from Japan, the earliest known printed text with reliable dating, alongside the Gutenberg Bible and John James Audubon's Birds of America. At Sterling Memorial Library, view the amazing architectural style and focal-point art alongside exhibits curated for Yale visitors. At the Medical Library, see how the old blends with the new as we move between the library's collection of brains that transformed tumor research and the library's spaces designed to meet the needs of today's future doctors of medicine.

Schedule at a glance:
10:00 AM – Tour of the Beinecke
11:30 AM – Self-guided glance at the Sterling Memorial Library Nave
12:00 PM – Lunch at Heirloom restaurant
2:00 PM – Tour of Medical Library
3:30 PM – Finish the day at the Yale Art Gallery (optional)

SLA members in the area are welcome to drop in on our lunchtime conversation. Attendees are responsible for purchasing their own lunch, but we hope you enjoy us for the collegial cheer nonetheless!

Registration is required. Please complete this form to attend.

Our headcount limit is 15 people, SLA New England members preferred (no guests). Once we reach the headcount, the registration form will close.

Here is information from Yale University about parking options. We will be doing some walking, so please wear a pair of comfortable shoes!
