The Rutgers University Libraries seek an experienced, innovative, and service-oriented individual to fill the position of Research Services Librarian for the Health Sciences Libraries on the Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences (RBHS) Campuses of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President and Director of Health Sciences Libraries, the Research Services Librarian will provide academic, research and clinical support to faculty and departments in RBHS schools, units and centers, meeting their evidence based practice needs through information discovery, instruction and consultation. This person will provide research information services including publication analysis and metrics, citation impact reports, citation and data management consultations. Other areas of focus include conducting outreach, and producing research guides, tutorials, and learning objects for integration into RBHS academic programs. The Research Services Librarian will collaborate with health sciences faculty in the research process, and produce reports using available tools.

Working collaboratively with RBHS librarians will:
• Provides advisory services for faculty, students, and staff such as:
  •   Developing successful publishing and dissemination strategies
  •   Managing and tracking publications
  •   Measuring/assessing research through metrics by discipline
  •   Communicating metrics via reports and presentations

• Assists faculty and students in their understanding, assessment, and reporting of impactful outcomes of research and clinical care efforts across RBHS. Works in tandem with partners to collect and analyze research impact data using various resources and bibliometric methods to report impact of faculty and institutional publishing and research activities.
• Understands and interprets a wide range of publication and citation-based statistics. Provides researchers with information on options for dissemination, publication, and preservation of scholarly works. Investigates and provides specialized support for analysis, use and emerging applications of research metrics.
• Develops and delivers instruction, workshops and programming on topics related to understanding research metrics, reporting research impact to funding agencies, and optimizing dissemination of research outputs.
• Collaborates with faculty on systematic reviews, including performing exhaustive searches across multiple biomedical databases, writing search methodologies for publication. Instructs students in classrooms, and remotely on the systematic review process, required in curricula across the health sciences schools.
• Conducts classes and workshops on Advanced PubMed Searching, Web of Science, Scopus and EndNote. Teaches orientation sessions, course-integrated instruction and workshops for library clientele.
• Provides reference services, in-person and virtually, as well as expert searching services to support research, clinical practice and medical education; maintains current knowledge of the trends and issues in higher education, scholarly communication, research practice, health care; serves as a liaison to departments/groups across our multi-campus statewide system; engages in scholarship and committee activities in discipline related professional organizations.
• Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers’ regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified; understands and adheres to Rutgers’ compliance standards as they appear in RBHS’ Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy; performs other related duties as assigned.

This full-time, non-tenure track position reports to the Assistant Vice President and Director of Health Sciences Libraries and is a member of a team of librarians committed to providing exceptional services to a diverse population of faculty and students.

Minimum Education and Experience:
The successful candidate will have an ALA-accredited MLS, plus at least three (3) years of experience in a professional librarian capacity, at least two (2) years of which shall have been in an academic or academic health sciences library. Must be proficient in the use of technology-based library systems, web-based educational support and development, ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and users. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Commitment to innovative and successful user services. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


Demonstrated familiarity with research impact metrics, bibliometrics, and relevant resources, i.e., ORCID, Pure, NCBI My Bibliography, RedCap, DMPTool, and use of R. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of bibliographic and citation databases.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
SALARY/STATUS: Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Preferred rank: Librarian of Practice II or III.

Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) serves as the umbrella organization for eight schools and seven centers and institutes focused on improving human health.
