Our Story

The Carolinas chapter of the Special Libraries Association represents librarians and information professionals who work in large and small corporations and organizations. You can find our members working as directors, managers, researchers, and specialists in information centers, knowledge management departments, professional online and consultants’ services, academic and government institutions, law firms, agencies, and much more.

Why Join SLA and the Carolinas Community?

By joining CSLA, you will become a part of an active community of local librarians and information professionals whose focus is delivering relevant professional development and networking opportunities designed around you.

Whether you’re new to the profession or a seasoned professional, a native Carolinian or a recent addition, you’ll gain a host of benefits from local learning and networking events to resources for career support and connecting with industry trends.

It's Good to Be Local

  • SLA Annual Conference - NC and SC residents will serve as the host community for the 2022 SLA Annual in Charlotte.
  • Network - get to know your regional colleagues at informal dinners, after-work happy hours, lunch or brunch meet-ups, and other social events.
  • Know to Grow - CSLA puts together original programming including tours, webinars, and learning summits all across the state.

SLA Brings the Benefits

  • Flexibility - be a part of as many subject-specific and geographical communities as you want!
  • Leadership - Opportunities abound to gain leadership skills and experience through SLA with options that fit with the amount of time you are able to commit. SLA is smaller than ALA and CLA, so it’s easier to get involved with micro-volunteer activities or larger board roles.
  • Mission-driven Support - Learning, Networking, and Advocacy
    • Career Center - Member only access to view jobs and post your resume for potential employers to view and access to career planning literature.
    • Information Outlook - SLA’s online magazine allows members to stay on top of the latest industry trends.
    • SLA Connect - Robust open discussions through forums.

CSLA Events

  • 2022 CSLA Kick-off!

    Jan 26, 17:30 - 18:30 (ET)
Join us Wednesday, January 26th at 5:30 PM EST to kick-off 2022 in proper CSLA style! Remember how fun our awards were at the end of 2020? Well, we're doing it again, and there's still time to get your nominations in! Nominate yourself or another CSLA member -- we want to celebrate YOU! For instance, I won my first strongwoman medal in 2021 -- certainly not a hobby I knew I'd participate in pre-pandemic days! And I will shamelessly make everyone look at my medal and tell you how I was 5 seconds off of a US women's record...and I'm not even a little bitter about that five seconds. So grab a cup of cocoa or get cozy in your favorite blanket, and we'll see you on the 26th! ----------------------------- Special Libraries Association is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
