Dear fellow SLA B&F & LMD members,

I am contacting you as the new Chair of the Corporate Information Centres (CIC) Section of B&F. I will be moderating the Breakfast session at the SLA Conference in June 2020 in Charlotte, USA. In order to make the session as relevant to attendees as possible I would love to hear from you if you work in / manage a CIC service - what are the top issues that are keeping you awake at night. What are your pain points?

Some topics already on my radar are below: Please indicate which are most relevant to you (your top 3!), and feel free to add other topics to the list.

    • Branding and PR/internal stakeholder management – How best to get the word out that you are trusted advisers on content? To prove your commercial relevance and being visible to the business?

    • Being effective and efficient in service provision and helping your users be productive – are you automating any activities? Can you save more of your customers' time as well as your own?

    • Skills and competencies for your team – what's new and essential? How does it impact recruitment processes?

    • Service evolution – have you stopped / started services? What worked – and what didn't? (We know that failure teaches us too).

    • Outsourcing, its multiple forms and the experience on either side – how do you build a sustainable service in locations where there is attrition and no legacy of information careers?

    • Information literacy – how do you educate your users on issues around data quality and risk?

    • Other (your suggestions) - …………….

Whether you are attending the Conference or not, I would love to hear from you. I will use your responses to plan the session and also to inform a future write-up. Please email me offline if you prefer / share this message with colleagues. I will anonymise any references (unless otherwise agreed).  And finally if you would be interested in joining me and others on a panel or as discussion facilitators please get in touch asap!

If you are coming to the Conference please do not hesitate to get in touch in advance, and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at what looks like a great Conference – the programme of events already advertised is fantastic, especially of course the B&F and LMD programming.
