Computers have brought in a dynamic access to data and information. In the finance world there are 10+ financial agencies and federal watchdog groups committed to protecting consumers in the fast-moving realm of financial technology, also known as Fintech. Consumers today have ever greater options to store, share, and spend money with the aid of new technologies entering the market at breakneck speed. These emerging financial technologies can empower consumers by providing greater financialchoices and unprecedented convenience. At the same time, companies offering these exciting new products must keep in mind important consumer protection principles as they continue to innovate for consumers' benefit.

Based in Washington, D.C. each regulator does something unique in service to public officials and other American citizens. Who are these agencies? What do they do? What output do they generate that will be of interest and use to patrons of business, economic, policy, and government librarians? This output is in the public domain and available to be used in the financialtechnology (FInTech) world.

This Pre-Conference will take representatives from the agencies that regulate consumer protection, investments, and retail banking and have a librarian lead a discussion.

Librarians Jennifer Boettcher (Georgetown University), Bobray Bordelon (Princeton University), and Richard Huffine (FDIC Library) will lead the discussions with government insiders.

I forgot to mention, you Do Not have to register for the whole ALA meeting, you can just come for the PreConference.  It will be worth your time, I kept the cost low. We are working on making the process easier, but the EarlyBird deadline is this Wednesday.  If you stay for the evening you can join BRASS for the RefUSA Reception that evening.  TBA.
