Hi, SLA – this Monday, 5/24, BEST Friends is partnering with Skylight Books for another event in conjunction with the release of Hidden Heroes, Historic Places. I attended the first release event and it was SO GOOD. So rich with history and heart, and a complete joy and thrill to hear from the people featured in this book, their family members and local historians. I'm gushing. I hope you can attend – details here: https://www.lapl.org/whats-on/events/hidden-heroes-historic-places-book-launch-0

There are also links below to a series of events LAPL's Octavia Lab has lined up to celebrate Octavia Butler's birthday, including a collaboration with JPL.

Events are open to all, please share widely to other individuals and groups you think might be interested.

BEST Friends and the Octavia Lab are pleased to announce several upcoming events in May and June.

On May 24, the Octavia Lab, in partnership with Skylight Books, will host a virtual book talk discussing their Hidden Heroes, Historic Places coloring book. Following that, June will see several events celebrating the birthday of namesake Octavia E. Butler. These events will include two Parable of the Sower presentations, a conversation with author Lynell George, zine making with Sabine Maxine, NASA'S Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) discussing a mountain on Pluto's moon named Butler Mons, and a virtual tour of the awesome Octavia Lab.
