    President's Newsletter – February 2022

I want to share news from your SLA SoCal Community.

The combined Executive and Advisory Boards met on February 02, 2022.

From the closed Executive Board session held 11:45 am to Noon:

Sophie Li has informed the board that she is unable to serve as 2022 President due to personal issues.

Bill Lee will serve as Acting President in 2022 and as President in 2023

Jon-Luc Christiansen will serve as Past President

Caroline Coward will continue to serve as Secretary

From the Combined Executive and Advisory Board meeting which started at Noon:

Bill Lee submitted the Community Budget to SLA HQ.

                            Items on the budget include:

President and President-Elect or their designees will attend the annual conference

                      Annual Holiday Party

                      An SLA-SCC Dodger Day

                      A Sternheim Memorial Scholarship

Housing the Community archives and realia in a different location

                      A Fourth-of-July Potluck Celebration

There will be a webinar March 6, 2022, at 2:00 pm, to discuss ways to celebrate the 2027 Centennial founding of the SLA Southern California Chapter.  The goal is to form a committee to plan a proper celebration of the Southern California Chapter of Special Libraries Association's Centennial! 100 years! Why did we choose March 6, 2022, for the webinar? I've been thinking about having a series of workplace tours live on iPhones, with very little planning or production, and with the library admin's permission of course.  If this sounds interesting, let's discuss it.

I wish this to be a year in which members participate in events at a level they are comfortable with.  As you know, our membership is down.  If we are to have events, we must generate a higher level of participation from the members. There are many small jobs to be done within the teams making these events happen.  Most can be customized to fit your level of interest.

If any of these events seem like something in which you would be interested in participating at some level, let's talk.

    William Lee
