Thanks to all who voted for our next up open SoCal SLA Chapter Board positions!

The results were unanimous, no write ins!

    • Frances Lezcano, Secretary 2019-2020

Shelly, Frances and JonLuc will join: Mary Sohn Lee, Past President 2019, Richard Hulser, President 2019, and Bill Lee Treasurer, 2019.

As you know, the candidates' bios were on the Survey Monkey ballot. However, I thought it would be nice to share them again, so I have pasted them below.

So proud and grateful to these folks, and everyone in our chapter who steps up to run for a Board position or volunteer for an Advisory Board position! THANK YOU!

SLA SCC 2019 Board Candidates Bios

Shelly Ray has been a member of SLA for 11 years and has served in her current position on the Southern California Chapter Executive Board, Director-at-Large, for four years. While an MLIS student at UCLA, she served as the Webmaster, then President of the SLA Student Chapter. She also serves as the President of the BEST Friends of LAPL – the Friends of the Library group which supports the Business & Economics and Science, Technology & Patents departments at the Central Library.
Prior to entering the library world, she worked in business publishing. Since earning her MLIS, she's worked as a consultant in eLearning Program Development, Digital Asset Management, and Database Engineering. She is currently the Senior Departmental Systems Analyst in the Research, Records and Information Management department at Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).
As President, Shelly would plan to focus on outreach to library and information science students, particularly those in online, distance learning programs, to help ensure they have community networking and other opportunities available from their professional association.
When not running for chapter Board positions, Shelly enjoys hanging out with her cat, tinkering around the house, swimming, and getting ready for Christmas.

Frances Lezcano is the head of Access Services at The University of Southern California's Norris Medical Library. She is also enrolled in the MMLIS program at USC and serves as the USC+SLA Student Chapter Vice President.
If she were to be elected as Secretary, she would like to explore ways to encourage library school students to not only register but be more involved with SLA. It is particularly beneficial for networking and support for those enrolled in online programs.

    Director at Large/Membership Chair

JonLuc Christensen joined the San Jose State SLA Student Chapter during his first semester in 2017. Since then, he has served as: Assistant Programming Director (January-August 2017), Chapter President (September 2017 to September 2018), and Immediate Past-President (September 2018-Current).
In Spring, 2017, he was awarded a travel stipend by SLA-SCC to attend the 2017 SLA Conference in Phoenix, where he volunteered at the Western Chapters Social and later reported on his experiences.
Recently, JonLuc has worked with other chapter members to develop the October 26th, 2018 Professional Development Day.
If elected as the chapter's Director-at-Large, JonLuc aims to help grow chapter membership through the targeted use of memberships statistics and data. One area he specifically would focus on is the transition rate of student chapter members to local chapter members. He believes membership data can be used to increase communication and create target programming to accomplish this goal. Academically, JonLuc is a graduate candidate in the MLIS and Advanced Certificate in the Strategic Management of Digital Assets and Services programs at San Jose State University. Professionally, he is a Records Management Specialist for the NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory in LaCañada-Flintridge.
