I'm interested in hearing from info pros serving Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) clients. What sources are you using for market research and industry reports?

We use D&B First Research and MarketLine via EBSCO. But we're also considering BCC Research, BizMiner and IBISWorld. Are there others you recommend?

    Hi Dru,

We primarily provide company lists from D&B Hoovers for our clients. Our market is just the Calgary Metro Area though. There is also Mergent online. IBISWorld reports are good for national profiles.

I'd like to recommend a product to your organization specifically for supporting small businesses. The company is called Localintel and their platform provides tools for educating small businesses that can be customized to your region by the Localintel team. The tool would include industry data specific to your region/state if you subscribed to the platform.

You can view the tool here:

    U.S. Examples.

Choose the "Analyze Your Competition" tool and choose an Industry to see how the data is customized.

I can connect you with Localintel if you are interested in exploring the product further. Full disclosure: Localintel is a local Calgary company we have supported since inception. Localintel has received government grants of significant amounts. We are used as a reference and beta-tester for the product. The Localintel tool contains educational content specifically for small businesses, which ecdev products like Digital Town, Townfolio, GISPlanning Zoom Prospector do not include.
