    Hi Everyone -

I just wanted to invite you and your staffs to participate via webinar in a free Department of the Interior Library Training Session entitled "Preserving Our Nation's Wildlands: The History and Significance of the Wilderness Act" on Thursday, May 11th from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm ET, part of our series of free training sessions available from the Department of the Interior Library.

Mindful of our increasing population, accompanied by expanding settlement and growing mechanization, in 1964 Congress passed the Wilderness Act to preserve and protect certain lands in their natural condition and thus secure for present and future generations the benefits of wilderness. The act directed that designated wilderness areas be administered for the recreation of the American people, leaving them unimpaired for future use and enjoyment as wilderness. It also provided for the preservation of their character and the gathering and dissemination of information regarding their use and enjoyment, thus guaranteeing all Americans the opportunity to continue to relish the scenic and natural beauty of these public lands. Please join Interior Library Head of Reference Services Jennifer Klang for a look at the history and significance of the law that created the legal definition of wilderness in the United States and has thus far protected 9.1 million acres of federal land.

All that are interested are invited.  Please go to the following link to request webinar registration information:
