Your response before September 23 will be appreciated.
Hi Everyone! Working with our current SLA Pittsburgh Chapter President Olivia Glotfelty-Scheuering and President-Elect Helen Sobolik, I have formed a small committee focusing on celebrating the founding of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Pittsburgh Chapter. For those who may not be aware, the Pittsburgh Chapter was founded on December 5, 1922 (scroll down to see the full detail or check out former Pgh chapter president Carrie Wardzinski's write up from the 95th here: ). In my own history with the chapter, I remember us celebrating our 75th, 85th and 95th anniversary. 100 is definitely a big deal, and we hope to have a splashy event! However, we have no idea how many of our members (former or current), guests, or vendors are interested …so this email is helping us estimate how many people would likely attend. The date we have chosen is either Saturday December 4 or Sunday December 5, 2022, probably at a location TBD in Oakland or the city of Pittsburgh. It would be an afternoon event..
Kindly let me know if you would be interested and would be likely to attend. Spouses/significant others would be able to attend if they want. I volunteered to reach out to current and former chapter members, and others in my network to gauge interest. You may not be a current member of SLA, and that's ok. This event is for us to: celebrate our close NETWORK that we may have found valuable over the years, or to connect with new members and friends to usher in the next era in our community! I realize you may no longer live in the area, but wanted to let you know about the event, and consider if it is of interest.
We are regrouping next Friday September 23 to report the results of our potential attendee factfinding mission, so please respond before then.
Let me know if you have any questions…..and if you know of someone who may have been affiliated with Pittsburgh in the past, please share this email, or make your own appeal to them to join us. Thanks!
