SLA Southern California and San Diego Professional Development Day

Registration is officially open for Professional Development Day 2022!
This event will assist information professionals at all levels of their careers, whether just graduating from library school, in mid-career, or entering your sunset years. We will bring together new graduates, career experts, and fellow colleagues to share insights into how to take your career to the next level. Join us for a conversation where you will learn from others about their paths and get insight into forging your own most optimal work life!
We're also seeking a few individuals to give 5-15 minute lightning talks. Some potential topics are:
- "What I wish I learned in library school"
- Continuing to develop as a mid-career professional
- Something you learned recently
- A new solution you've discovered or implemented
- A recent successes or recent challenge

Some highlights of our early confirmed lineup of speakers:
"The Graduate" David Ballantine, San Jose State University
David graduated from San Jose State University with an MLIS degree earlier this year. He will share what post graduate experience has been like and his progress in searching for a new job. A most valuable activity has been networking, which has come in large part with his volunteering at the SoCal SLA. David will offer tips and motivation for others who may be in similar shoes.
"Tips for Entering, Re-Entering, or Making a Career Transition in the Library and Info Services Field" Kim Dority, SJSU iSchool Career Consultant for Students and Alumni
As the career advisor to the School of Information at San José State University, Kim Dority focuses on highlighting the diversity of career opportunities available to iSchool students and sharing the strategies necessary to find or create those opportunities.

"Report back from the Information Science Summit" JonLuc Christensen - Records Management Specialist and FOIA Lead at the Jet Propulsion Library
The summit will take place 10/28 in Pittsburgh, and focus on "Innovation and Trends in Information Science - Practice, Research, and LIS Education". JonLuc will be in attendance and also be a keynote speaker. He will share his key takeaways from the event.
A full agenda is forthcoming, and will include time to network with your peers, make connections, and learn from each other's experience.
