    University

    Mark Duncan will share how Plough Library at Christian Brothers University

    has successfully used hybrid technology for library speaker events and how

    others can adapt the setup for their specific needs and situations.

     

    "Creating Partnerships and Collaborations: Furthering Outreach and

    Engaging the Community You Serve"

    Rosa Rodriguez, Outreach Librarian at the California State University

    San Marcos University Library

    Rosa will share strategies for establishing collaborative partnerships to create

    unique outreach programs which make access to library services more

    equitable. The lightning talk will discuss best practices, potential benefits, and

    challenges in leveraging the resources of the library and its partners to host,

    organize, and promote library outreach services.

     

    "The Graduate"

    David Ballantine, San Jose State University

    David graduated from San Jose State University with an MLIS degree earlier

    this year. He will share what post graduate experience has been like and his

    progress in searching for a new job. A most valuable activity has been

    networking, which has come in large part with his volunteering at the Socal

    SLA. David will offer tips and motivation for others who may be in similar

    shoes.

     

    "Coming Full Circle: Charting a Course in Life and Libraries"

    Keith Locantore, Research Impact Librarian, NOAA (National Oceanic

    and Atmospheric Administration)

    Keith will share his journey to a career in libraries, with thoughts and

    reflections on lessons learned both in school and as he's progressed along his

    career path.

     

    "Tips for Entering, Re-Entering, or Making a Career Transition in the

    Library and Info Services Field"

    Kim Dority, SJSU iSchool Career Consultant for Students and Alumni,

    Dority @ Associates, Inc.

    Kim Dority, MLIS, is founder and president of Dority & Associates, an

    information strategy and content development company. In addition to her

    work with Dority & Associates, she also works with LIS professionals to help

    them create optimal career paths, and is the official Career Advisor for the San

    José State University iSchool and the USC-Marshall School of Business MMLIS

    program.

    Robin Sullivan, Teaching & Learning Strategist at University at Buffalo

    "Reset Your Thinking: the Role of the Cataloger in the 21st Century

    Technical Services Department"

    Jaye Lapachet, OCM Knowledge Manager, Genetech

    Jaye is a detail-oriented knowledge manager and professional librarian

    experienced working in a variety of organizational settings requiring strong

    creative problem solving, technical and interpersonal skills. She uses her skills

    to liaise across departments to build consensus and provide support for

    projects and training. In this talk, she will explain why cataloging is really 21st

    century metadata, and Tech Services is the crucial infrastructure that allows

    Reference to run smoothly.

     

    "Report back from the Information Science Summit"

    JonLuc Christensen - Records Management Specialist and FOIA Lead

    at the Jet Propulsion Library

    The Information Science Summit will take place October 28th in Pittsburgh,

    PA and focus on "Innovation and Trends in Information Science - Practice,

    Research, and LIS Education". JonLuc will be in attendance and also be a

    keynote speaker. He will share his key takeaways from the event.

     

    "Success vs. Burnout"

    Kayla Kuni (she/her/hers), Associate Director of Libraries at

    Pasco-Hernando State College

    Burnout, especially in librarianship, is easy to slip into. Kayla

    will discuss common causes of burnout and some potential

    remedies should one find themselves feeling like they are experiencing

    burnout.
