The DICE (Diversity Inclusion Community Equity) Community is pleased to announce that SLA is offering a scholarship to attend the Joint Conference of Librarians of Color (JCLC). The next scheduled JCLC is October 5-9, 2022, in St. Pete Beach Florida. The selected recipient will receive a $2,000 stipend to cover conference registration, travel, lodging, and other expenses. This stipend will be provided in advance in order to reduce the financial burden on the awardee.

JCLC brings together a diverse group of librarians, library staff, library supporters, and community participants to explore issues of diversity in libraries and how they affect the ethnic communities who use library services. JCLC is a unique and unparalleled opportunity for participants to share successes, opportunities, and challenges while networking and attending cutting-edge programs on pressing issues affecting both librarians and communities of color. JCLC strives to deepen connections across constituencies, create spaces for dialogue, promote the telling and celebrating of one's stories, and encourage the transformation of libraries into more democratic and diverse organizations. The conference includes speakers, skills building workshops, research-based panels, networking opportunities and exhibits. In addition, JCLC deepens connections across constituencies and beyond, and unifies and strengthens the voices of each association. (https://www.jclcinc.org/jclc-2022/)

The hope is that the selected recipient will bring back to SLA their experience at JCLC and ideas learned at the conference.

Apply using this form. If multiple people apply for the scholarship, priority is given based on:

  1. Being a current and continuing member of SLA (including student members);
  2. Strength of the candidate's statement on how they will take advantage of the opportunity to attend JCLC (A brief statement of this nature is required at the time of application for the scholarship);
  3. Stated hardship/inability to attend without support.

Applications will be accepted until 5 PM Pacific Time, April 1, 2022. A SLA DICE co-leader, and additional DICE member volunteers, will evaluate applications and select the recipient. The recipient will be notified by April 29, 2022. This is in time to take advantage of the "early bird" conference registration rate.
