    Our conflicts/intake team is housed within our Information Center.  Research and information governance skills are transferrable to a position like this.  

    The Conflicts Counsel is responsible for daily review, analysis, and resolution of conflicts and other issues related to Firm acceptance of new clients, new matters, and lateral attorneys, and interfaces with the Firm's conflicts team regarding approval of new matters and lateral attorney hiring. The Conflicts Counsel will report to Firm General Counsel and will accept additional assignments from Firm General Counsel and Associate General Counsel. The Conflicts Attorney would be a member of the Firm's Ethics and Conflicts Committee.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Analyzes conflict of interest reports for new Firm representations and lateral attorney hires to identify potential conflict issues.
    • Resolves conflict of interest issues (to include obtaining necessary consents and drafting ethics wall memos) related to the Firm's clearance of new clients, new matters, and lateral attorneys.
    • Analyzes information provided with new matter requests for compliance with Firm policies and applicable rules of professional responsibility, reviews and edits draft engagement letters for compliance with same.
    • Reviews client outside counsel guidelines and assists with assessment of Firm's ability to comply.
    • Conducts orientation of staff and attorneys regarding conflicts of interest and new matter approval process.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    • Education: The position requires a law degree and bar membership.
    • Experience: The position requires a minimum of five (5) years of practice experience as a lawyer in a mid-size to large law firm. Significant experience in conflict-of-interest law and/or professional responsibility is preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Basic knowledge of conflict-of-interest principles under professional responsibility rules.
    • Basic knowledge of an automated file opening system.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements.
    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a productive committed work effort, meeting deadlines and managing workload.
    • Demonstrated ability to make recommendations to successfully resolve issues through judgment consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation, or government law.
    • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability as well as a working knowledge of the rules of professional conduct.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals in various roles and locations and at all levels of the organization.
