Join Eugene Guidice and Seema Rampersad for our open discussion:
SLA is at an important stage of its evolution. Together, we have weathered a pandemic, and the board and staff have had to find innovative ways for us as members to gather and converse despite the pandemic.
Additionally, the board and staff have continued to find ways to show value for the dollars that members spend for their membership and/or conference participation and that our industry partners invest with SLA.
We as members can support and add to these efforts by considering what or should be the value that membership in SLA brings. If we cannot define that for ourselves, others will do the defining. If we let others define it, we will have lost an essential aspect of our identity as #OneSLA.
SLA does not exist in a bubble. It is subject to the same societal and economic forces and challenges as we all are, and that is why it is so vital that we truly make and define the business case for participation in SLA. If we cannot articulate that, specialized librarians and information professionals will not look any deeper. The question of value opens the door and allows the true strength of SLA, such as our global diversity, inclusion, and transparency, to shine forth.
To help define those value questions, my esteemed colleague Seema Rampersad from SLA Europe and I would like to invite you to an open discussion about the value that SLA delivers and how it could be increased for current and potential new members.
