Presented by Distinguished Professor Katy Borner of the Indiana University (IU) School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, the Information Visualization MOOC (IVMOOC) offers two courses (self-paced OR concurrent) providing instruction on data and information visualization. Course and IU registration info at or watch course overview video.

With SLA Maryland Chapter members enrolled in the self-paced IVMOOC course, learn:

  • Major temporal, geospatial, topical, and network visualization techniques
  • Data analysis algorithms that enable extraction of patterns and trends
  • Discussions of systems that drive research and development.

The eventbrite link is to register for SLA Maryland Chapter’s in-person course video viewing + “study group”.

Participants must also register online for access to the self paced IVMOOC at — this takes a few days as Indiana University process and issues an IU guest account which has to be set up to access Canvas, the learning management system where videos, assignments, course forum, etc are. Here is the 2018 Concurrent IVMOOC syllabus and schedule (12/04/2017) Our self-paced study group will only cover the first half of the course through the Final Exam.
