Congratulations to Elizabeth Popiel who is the recipient of the 2019 SLA-Michigan Travel Award to the SLA annual conference in Cleveland.

Currently, Elizabeth is completing her Master of Science in Information at School of Information at the University of Michigan and has been a member of SLA-Michigan since 2018.  In her letter to the Award Committee, Elizabeth wrote:

It was on the encouragement of one of the local Michigan SLA members that I sought out alternative opportunities within special libraries. I took chances with alternative focused coursework and pursued challenging and rewarding specialized internships this past summer. It is my hope that I may return some of that encouragement to new graduates and to SLA and it's Michigan chapter as I enter the professional workforce in Washtenaw County. In becoming a more active member within the community, I would like to suggest more accessible local workshops -- through webcast and interactive community sessions. This would facilitate more talk from different professionals within our network that reflect its unique nature, but also provide guidance in our ever changing workplaces.

We are looking forward to Elizabeth's participation in our Chapter's activities. When you see Elizabeth at the conference, please take the time to introduce yourselves and welcome her.

We are very grateful to the SLA-Michigan members who annually organize the Holiday Party Silent Auction and to our generous sponsors who donate and our members who bid.  Your contribution makes a difference.

    Thank you.
