Happy New Year!
I was very glad to see many of you at last December's Holiday Party. As you can see from the photo below - we had a good time. Our guest speaker, Kent District Library's Director Lance Werner, was engaging and Weber's Inn a welcoming host. Jane Potee along with Joel Scheuher did a wonderful job organizing the Silent Auction. We also appreciated ProQuest's generous sponsorship.
Every year, at the Holiday Party we also have the Chapter's annual business meeting. For 2019, we have some Board member and Committee changes. It was not until late December that Eric Tans agreed to be President-Elect, so Anne Herron, the Chapter's Director and Nominating Chair, will send you an e-ballot to approve his nomination. I am also happy to introduce the Chapter's new Treasurer - Edward Dunne and our new student liaison Mary Catherine Moeller.

Special Acknowledgement for Their Contribution to the Chapter
In December, Meryl Brodsky had to resign as the Chapter Treasurer because she moved to Texas. On behalf of Chapter, I would like to thank her for very conscientiously managing our accounts and being an active Board member.
I would also like to express my appreciation to Sally Ziph for her many years of work as Social Media/PR chair. The new Board will be looking for candidates to fill her vacated position.
This was Jane Potee's final year as a Board member with the Chapter. On behalf of the Chapter, I would like to thank Jane for the energy and enthusiasm at she brought to her roles as Program Chair and President and even taking on the extra task of organizing the Silent Auction. I hope that Jane will continue to be an active Chapter member.
I would also like to thank the remaining Board members and Committee Chairs for their work. It was wonderful to work with a team that understood their obligations and completed their work before I even found the time to remind them.
Changes in the required number of program events
The previous version of SLA-Michigan Recommended Practices stated that the Chapter was responsible for hosting six events per year. The new adopted practices (February 2018) leave the number of events and format open. Over the last few years, attendance at some of the evening events were low. The required event number also discouraged many members from volunteering to be Program Chairs and President-Elect. At this annual meeting, members approved the Board's recommendations to change the program format and host two or three events per year instead of six. One event can be a day-long conference.Eric Tans will assume Program Chair responsibilities in June 2019 and then he and his committee could better experiment with the program format.
New Chapter website
The Chapter received a new website platform and I am working with Jennifer Zimmer, Chapter Webmaster, in updating and adding Board and Annual Chapter Business meeting minutes.
Thanks to all Chapter members who contributed and participated in last year's programs. Your support was encouraging.
I wish the Chapter's new President Sheila Bryant and all of the Chapter a successful new year.
SLA-Michigan Past President
