Please excuse cross posting...The Michigan State University Libraries currently has a posting for a Physical Sciences Librarian, Librarian I, posted on PageUp (MSU's Applicant Page).
Posting 566448: MSU Libraries invites candidates to bring fresh perspectives to our Physical Sciences Librarian position. This person will be responsible for reaching out and meeting the information needs of MSU students, faculty and staff in key areas of the physical sciences. Campus units to be served include the Abrams Planetarium, Department of Chemistry, the Department of Physics, the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory, the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), and potentially others reflecting interests and strengths of the candidate and the needs of the library.
Specific activities include, but are not limited to, research services, library instruction, the creation of subject-specific research guides, and developing and maintaining library collections in relevant disciplines. Collection responsibilities are accomplished through interest in and engagement with the subject areas, awareness of campus teaching and research needs, selection of materials, and management of existing collections including migration to new formats and de-selection when warranted. The librarian will also develop an understanding of the data needs of various science colleges and departments, including chemistry and physics, and will work with data librarians to meet the data management, curation and visualization needs of these populations. The successful candidate must be broadly focused and adventurous enough to expand their range of liaison responsibilities as well as participate approximately quarter-time in a secondary assignment based on the needs of the library and candidate interests. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
