    Full Time Position                                                                                                                        

    The successful candidate willassist in all areas of library operations, including responsible for the acquisition, organization, and assessment of the library's online, print, and other collections. Perform all professional librarian duties including, but not limited to: Help Desk, collection development, teaching, and service.


    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate operations of the acquisitions, cataloging and metadata, and serials areas.
    • Catalogs new acquisitions using National Library of Medicine classification.
    • Assures that the collection is weeded and performs inventories on a regular basis.
    • Participate in the selection and maintenance of online resources and in associated contract negotiations with vendors.
    • Manages and maintains links between web-based resources and local holdings through LinkOut, the National Library of Medicine Service embedded directly in Medline records.
    • Provide interlibrary loan services through Docline.
    • Establish and assess services, policies, and practices for acquisitions, cataloging and metadata, and serials.
    • Serve as the administrator for technical services functions of the Learning Resource Center's ILMS.
    • Maintains and updates library's knowledge base for journals and other resources.
    • Work collaboratively with other Technology & Library Services staff to ensure efficiency and interoperability among Learning Resource Center and other campus systems.
    • Teach bibliographic instruction sessions, hold scheduled reference consultations.
    • Provide reference services at the Help Desk.
    • Assists in management of the Library department, including supervision of the Library Technician and student assistants in the absence of the director.
    • Help maintain desktops, printers, and other instructional technology in Learning Resource Center.
    • Other related duties, as assigned.


    Customer Contacts: 

    Contacts may be with all levels of college personnel and students.

    Supervision Received:

    Administrative supervision from the Director of Library.

    Supervision Given:

    Supervise Library Technician and student assistants in the Director's absence.


    Minimum Work Requirements:


    • A Master of Library Science (MLS), Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS/MSLIS), Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS), Master of Information Science (MIS) from an ALA accredited institution.
    • Two years professional library experience in an academic library.

    • Effective communication, interpersonal, organization, analytical, and problem solving skills with an ability to work with a widely diverse group of people.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team setting and independently in a changing environment and to accept direction from one's supervisor.
    • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning.



    • Experience in a medical library or STEM background.
    • Experience with National Library of Medicine Classification System.
    • Cataloging experience.
