SLA-NY Rising Star Award

The SLA-NY Rising Star Award is the community's version of SLA's annual award presented to recognize outstanding new members (five years or less) who contribute greatly to the community and show exceptional intuition and leadership.

Congratulations to the 2021 Winner: Alvina Lai

Alvina Lai (they/them) is the Cybrarian / DAM Librarian at Craft, McCann Worldgroup. They are the 2020-2021 APALA Mentoring Committee Chair, 2020-2021 CALA Northeast Chapter Vice President, and a member of the VRA Equitable Action Committee. They previously held DAM positions at Carnegie Hall and Worldwide Wildlife Fund.

Alvina is a guest writer on Play the Past, with work on the theme of libraries in video games. In addition, an assortment of their writing is on Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s “Plants & Gardens Blog” and New York Times’ “Metropolitan Diary.”

They hold a MS in Library and Information Science from Pratt Institute (May 2020), a BA in Creative Writing from The New School, and a BFA in Photography from Parsons the New School for Design.

Nominations

To nominate a member of the SLA-NY Community for the 2021 SLA-NY Rising Star Award, please submit a brief bio of the nominee, contact information (email and/or phone number), a paragraph outlining why they should be considered, and any relevant supplementary material such as a website or LinkedIn profile. The SLA-NY Award Committee is accepting nominations and awards will be presented at an upcoming Community event. Nominations should be submitted through the online submission form by April 30, 2021.
