2020 President's Message
Dear Chapter Members and Friends,
The start of the year is a traditional time for new resolutions. As we enter the first full week of 2020 you may be thinking that this is the year to expand your professional network, work on your professional development, or become more involved in your professional association. As a member of SLA you have the opportunity to do all these things and more. Here is an update about your local chapter’s new board and the program of events we have planned for the coming year.

Quarterly Managers round table meetings (the 1st will be on Feb 7th)
Theatre Outing - Fire This Time Festival (Sunday Feb 2nd - first 5 SLA members will get tix for free, tix price $20)
A viewing of the documentary on the life of Toni Morrison, The Pieces I Am (Friday evening Feb 28th & Sunday afternoon March 1st)
Exploring the U.S. Census: Your Guide to America’s Data (Feb or March)
Our annual Karaoke HerStory (March)
Panel on Artificial Intelligence AI (March)
Early Career panel (April 3rd)
Look the Part - panel event discussing authenticity, individuality, and the right to self-expression in the office/stacks/archive (April)
Get the Part - panel event that provides a guide as to what skill/talent to bring to get that job/promotion (May)
A Feminist Walking Tour through Harlem (May or June)
Ways to improve your public speaking skills (May or June)
A summer tour of Central Park
Social Media Research (Fall)

Leadership Symposium
The 2020 SLA Leadership Symposium will take place at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner in the Washington DC Metro Area from
January 18 to 20. It will provide SLA members with relevant quality educational leadership training, in conjunction with volunteer training.

Annual Conference
