The Chapter's April event took place at the midtown offices of Kirkland Ellis LLP on April 24th.   We were very fortunate to have twelve very experienced information professionals volunteer as mentors.  They represented a variety of sectors including legal, medical, academic, finance and academic.  The evening started with some traditional networking over wine and nibbles and the opportunity to admire the views from the building's 50th floor.   Our former Chapter President and SLA Board Director,  Emma Davidson, provided a few words, which were very well received,  on the many benefits of joining SLA, and then the mentoring sessions began.   Each mentor was able to meet with six different mentees for ten minute sessions each.   Discussion topics included how to move sectors, tips on presenting your resume, and the many career options available in special libraries.   It was great to have a number of students from CUNY Queens College who were looking for advice on entering the information profession.   The feedback from mentors and mentees was extremely positive and it was a very effective way to demonstrate the value of SLA membership.   We have taken note of the numerous requests to repeat the event later in the year.
