    Congratulations to this year's SLA-NY Rising Star Award winner Alvina Lai! The Rising Star Award is "presented to recognize outstanding new members who contribute greatly to the community and show exceptional intuition and leadership."

    Alvina Lai (they/them) was a panelist on SLA-NY's Financially Savvy panel in January 2021 and has jumped in to share their knowledge with SLA-NY Board projects. Alvina is the Cybrarian / DAM Librarian at Craft, McCann Worldgroup. They are the 2020-2021 APALA Mentoring Committee Chair, 2020-2021 CALA Northeast Chapter Vice President, and a member of the VRA Equitable Action Committee. They previously held DAM positions at Carnegie Hall and Worldwide Wildlife Fund.

    Alvina is a guest writer on Play the Past, with work on the theme of libraries in video games. In addition, an assortment of their writing is on Brooklyn Botanic Garden's "Plants & Gardens Blog" and New York Times' "Metropolitan Diary."

    They hold a MS in Library and Information Science from Pratt Institute (May 2020), a BA in Creative Writing from The New School, and a BFA in Photography from Parsons the New School for Design.
