Description

Join us for a discussion on diversity and inclusion in library and information environments organized by SLA NY's Professional Development and Diversity Committee.

Speakers include:

Emma C. Antobam-ntekudzi, Reference & Instruction Librarian, Bronx Community College, CUNY
Emma Antobam-Ntekudzi is an Instructor/Reference & Instruction Librarian at Bronx Community College (BCC). In her role, Emma helps students, staff and teaching faculty with their research needs and provides library instruction sessions for various classes. Emma’s interest in librarianship began during her years as a Library Associate at the New York Botanical Garden LuEsther T. Mertz Library. She received her MLS from Queens College and is pursuing a second masters in Urban Affairs. Prior to her Instructor position, she served as the Access Services Librarian at SUNY Old Westbury Library. In 2018, she was honored as the NYLA-NYBLC Diversity & Inclusion Scholar and she is currently a member of CUNY’s Faculty Diversity & Inclusion Conference Planning Committee.

Hildy Dworkin,  Library Director at NYC Department of Social Services
Hildy Dworkin has been the librarian for the NYC Department of Social Services (NYC DSS) for 20 years and earned her MLS at Queens College in NYC. She is credited with modernizing the DSS Library where she automated the catalog and fought for computer terminals in the library. Four years ago when the agency moved, Hildy was tasked with moving the library to 4 World Trade Center.

She joined SLA in 2000 and is currently a Director on SLA’s Board of Directors. Hildy served in other leadership roles in SLA since 2005 when she was Secretary for the Solo Librarian’s Division and later she chaired that division. She was also a member of the Public Relations Advisory Council (PRAC) and then served as the chair of that council for two years. In addition, she served on committees for two of SLA NY’s conferences. Hildy says she owes a lot of her success at work to her membership and leadership experiences in SLA.

Michael Miller, Chief Librarian, Bronx Community College, CUNY

After achieving tenure as the Associate Librarian for Public Services at Queens College – CUNY, he was appointed as Chief Librarian at BCC.
