Let's Discuss the Wonderful World of Standards

    Hello All,

The conference reminded of what a great community SLA is.  As a solo librarian I had to jump head first into the world of standards with no past experience in the area.  Three years in and I am still learning.  I have been wanting to have open conversations with those who are familiar with standards.  As librarians we do not actually USE standards but, in most cases, we are the avenue for PROVIDING them to our colleagues.  There is a stiff  learning curve and a need to understand certain aspects of standards in order to be able to navigate the standards world.  Copyright.  Standards providers....who do you use and are you pleased with your service?  How do revisions work? What are redlines and why don't they exist for every standard?  Why are there so many concurrent user restrictions?  Do you find the world of standards complicated? Am I the only one who rates this as the least favorite part of their job?

I just want to talk with others who can relate to all of the above.  I want to learn from others and share my own experiences so I thought a great first step is to arrange a round robin style call and do what librarians do best....share experiences and resources.  I already reached out to some of you during the SLA conference.  Thanks for your favorable feedback but I wanted to open this up to more of you!  A date and time has not been decided as I wanted to gauge interest first.
