    A virtual event series organized by the New Jersey, Leadership and Management Development and Pharmaceutical Health Technology Communities of SLA.

    2nd Session - November 8, 2PM-3PM EDT: Global Special Libraries

    General Info:

    6 SLA members (3 in October, 3 in November) from across the globe describe how they dealt with the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 Global Pandemic. They'll share how their libraries adapted; how their organizations changed (or didn't); and how they are still weathering the "new normal" that is anything but normal.

    Speaker presentations will be followed by audience Q&A, via Zoom chat and video (time permitting). The events will be recorded for later viewing.

    Speakers:

    Seema Rampersad - Originally from Trinidad & Tobago, Seema went to London, England to study Information and Communication. She worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Business Information Centre and the Intelligence Unit at the Greater London Authority. Seema is currently working at The British Library's Business & IP Centre for starting-up and growing businesses, which has helped 10000s in the UK and internationally.Seema is still an advocate for traditional library and information services.  She recognizes the need for the profession to evolve and develop whereby industries and sectors can benefit from the skills, competencies and network of specialized libraries and information professionals. Seema continues to use new technologies for collaborating information and knowledge across subject areas and borders. She is interested in social media, AI, machine learning and multimedia as business-focused and professional development tools for managing and delivering data, information and knowledge. Seema serves on SLA Europe's Board of Directors as Past President 2021, is in the Digi Comms Group and was Membership Chair. She is currently Chair of the Task Force on Reopening Specialized Libraries, member of the PREP Council and initial member of the Task Force on Diversity Inclusion and Equity (DICE). She also volunteers in her local community

    Nabi Hasan- Dr. Hasan is the head of the Central Library at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Earlier, he has served as the University Librarian of Aligarh Muslim University, whose library system is the largest in India. A Ph.D. in library and information sciences, he was the first Norman E. Borlaug Fellow in Library Information Systems at Cornell University in New York. He has 16 books and 156 articles to his credit and has completed many technology-driven library projects. Dr. Hasan has served as 2020 President of SLA Asia and currently is the President-Elect of the Academic Community.

    Nabi will share his experience on "Libraries and Library Professionals in the New Normal: A case study of India", in which he would like to summarize as what librarians and libraries have been doing during the pandemic in India. Libraries and Librarians in India as in other countries as well, managed the library services differently in different innovative ways. Some with full closures but with online and others with partial closures, and some were open as per the next or new normal with online services as well.
