PHT Volunteer Mark Haythorn Recognized by SLA at Town Hall

PHT Programming Chair Mark Haythorn was a speaker during the SLA Town Hall held on April 22, 2021 that celebrated National Volunteer Week. In addition to his Town Hall appearance, Mark was featured in the SLA LinkedIn announcement below.

In his role for two years now as PHT Programming Chair, Mark leads a small committee that develops professional development sessions for PHT members, held in-person or virtually. He's responsible for the topics and speakers in the PHarma Talks webinar series, begun in November 2020, and is also a "wizard behind the curtain" ensuring these webinars actually take place. So he juggles a lot.

Listen for yourself: Here's a link to the recording of the Town Hall; Mark's portion starts at the 23:38 mark, for about eight minutes.

Mark begins by saying he believes that most people volunteer based on the three Rs: it's Rewarding; it's good for your Resume; and you get Recognized for your efforts. But those are not the only reasons he volunteered for PHT. He was also compelled by peer pressure and through the acknowledgement that you cannot always assume that someone else will do it.

In the Town Hall he also provides context about PHT and some of the challenges its Community volunteers face. Mark has been motivated to continue to volunteer especially by the success of the webinars.

When Mark is not volunteering, he works at Grifols, which makes health products from blood and plasma, in Durham, NC.

If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, or are simply curious, or want to get to know some peers, PHT always has a variety of tasks that need your input. Contact PHT President 2021 Susie Corbett.

    Congratulation and thank you, Mark!
