     To:          PHT Members, Vendor Partners, and Others who registered for the PHT 35th Anniversary Meeting, November 1-3, 2020, in Philadelphia

    At a meeting of the PHT 35th Anniversary Meeting Planning Committee on July 10, a decision was made to reschedule the November 2020 PHT Meeting to the Fall of 2021. A PHT subgroup met with SLA HQ on July 22 to share this development and to discuss logistics around approaching the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn's Landing to identify available dates for an in-person meeting in October 2021.



    We came to the decision to reschedule based on multiple factors:

    • Analysis of the results of the Member and Vendor Surveys in late June about the meeting indicated that attendance would be low. (See the Connect posting here summarizing the results.) Thank you to those who completed the survey.
    • On July 14, the City of Philadelphia announced a moratorium on publicly-advertised events on public property until Feb. 28, 2021. Additionally, indoor events are capped at 25 people and outdoor events are capped at 50.
    • As of July, the COVID-19 pandemic is showing signs of renewed strength for the immediate future.


    Refunds for November 2020 Meeting

    If you registered for the November 2020 Meeting, the issuance of refunds will begin soon. We have decided this is the easiest approach for all involved. Refunds will take the same form in which initial payment was made. We expect them to be completed by the end of August.


    Effectively, we will be starting from scratch in planning for the Fall 2021. Whether you are a member or a vendor, we hope that you will be able to allocate budgetary funds for participation in the Fall 2021 Meeting.


    Alternative Programming

    At this time we anticipate providing accessible, interactive opportunities for learning, networking, and engagement through a regular series of webinars, likely starting this Fall. We envision these sessions as a mix of some of the presentations from the November 2020 agenda, suggestions from the survey, vendor engagement opportunities, and platforms to get to know other members.


    Speakers who were to appear at the 2020 SLA PHT Meeting will be contacted by Mark Haythorn or Amy Cox.


    Sponsorship Opportunities

    Ideas for participation and sponsorship opportunities and engagement with PHT members for our vendor partners are being considered. Please look for communication from Janet Weiss.


    The pandemic may have thrown a wrench into our plans more than once this year. I want to recognize and thank the members of the Planning Committee who have endeavored since the Fall of 2019 to provide a safe, high-quality event for the PHT Community:

    Thank you for listening and being prudent.

    Clearly we aren't out of the woods yet and it is appreciated the tough but caring decisions.

    There are many other options available as we all become accustom to virtual meetings.
