Adis Insight

Many SLA members are familiar with the AdisInsight database which is often searched to obtain the latest details regarding drug development and associated clinical trial information. During the SLA-PHT Webinar, we discussed more use cases, which users might be less familiar with, related to AdisInsight Safety and the AdisInsight Data feed.

AdisInsight Safety is a tool that can help improve the efficiency of in-house pharmacovigilance literature monitoring. Our Safety content set is a database of validated adverse events and special situation Individual Case Safety Reports, or ICSRs, for drugs.  AdisInsight Safety can help you identify, monitor, and report the published ICSRs that you need to know about. The AdisInsight database allows subscribers to easily create strategies to yield the search results they need to pinpoint.

The AdisInsight data feed enables users to directly access AdisInsight Drug and Trial content through an XML data feed either daily, weekly, or monthly. Typically, a data feed could be used by Digital Librarians to integrate AdisInsight content into an organization’s’ information portal. Or, an Information Manager might use the AdisInsight data feed as source material to support data mining activities. Lastly, a Data Scientist might use a data feed to support big data analysis where direct content is more convenient than platform access. An AdisInsight data feed enables an organization to integrate external content alongside internal, company content.

To learn more about AdisInsight, please visit AdisInsight.Springer.com or email Angela.Panetta@springer.com for more information.

Duration: 60 minutes

Location: Webinar

Springer Nature
www.springernature.com

Speaker: Christina Sontag

Springer Nature provided an update on their text & data mining offerings, as well as some exciting new reporting options via Google BigQuery for Dimensions, a networked view of interconnected scientific, medical, and technical data that can be used to track research and discovery trends.

New England Journal of Medicine Group  www.nejmgroup.org

Speaker: David Kipp
NEJM Group creates high-quality medical resources for research, learning, practice and professional development designed to meet the demand for essential medical knowledge among intermediaries who serve the research and medical communities, e.g., publishing, technology and pharmaceutical organizations, academic researchers and teachers, physicians, clinicians, executives and others in medicine and healthcare. NEJM Group products include the New England Journal of Medicine, NEJM Catalyst Innovations in Care Delivery, and NEJM Journal Watch. NEJM Group is a division of the Massachusetts Medical Society.

NEJM provided updates in three areas:

  1. The New England Journal of Medicine:

We have expanded and improved many of our research tools that accompany our original research articles on NEJM.org.  Users should be aware of these tools as they are great summaries and are an easy way to briefly communicate the make up of the in-depth article.  These include:

Quik Take Video – 2-3 minute professional videos that summarize the key components of a study.  They are located in the article and also in the Multimedia Section of NEJM.org.

Visual Abstracts – single page infographic that summarizes the findings of a study.

Research Summary – one page outline that briefly describes the problem studied, trial makeup, results and conclusion.  These are available with some trials now and eventually, will be provided with every clinical trial published.

  1. NEJM Catalyst:

NEJM introduced this journal last year and we have had a great response.  We publish long form, peer-reviewed articles and other content that deals with the latest issues and innovations that transform health care delivery.  This year we will move to a monthly format.  Many key articles have been of particular interest to the pharmaceutical industry.  Key management functions that deal with new and transformative models should be consulted to see the value that this journal provides.

  1. NEJM announcing a new journal offering for January, 2022:

NEJM Evidence will be rolled out next year to help change the process and delivery of publishing key clinical trials.  The emphasis will be on better understanding of the trial process, more input and participation of authors and readers on the work being done, and encouragement of clinicians to demand new evidence to challenge the status quo towards better decision making.  Dr. Jeff Drazen (former editor of The New England Journal of Medicine) will be editor of NEJM Evidence and will use the same trusted editorial rigor in helping to develop new ways to understand and discuss studies that can improve patient care.  More information on NEJM Evidence will be available over the next few months.

Wolters Kluwer    www.wolterskluwer.com

Speakers: Ian Bergin and Glenn McAlpine
Wolters Kluwer is a leading global provider of trusted clinical technology and evidence-based solutions that help healthcare professionals build clinical competency and effective decision-making to improve outcomes.

Wolters Kluwer's presentation on new and upcoming platform updates featured a live demonstration of two new functionalities (Term Finder & Search Sharing) that debuted in 2020 as a result of a formal contextual inquiry process, in which Wolters Kluwer's product development team members observe user behavior in the field with existing technologies to help them:

  • Understand the jobs users do
  • Identify users’ unmet needs
  • Understand the vocabulary users use to describe things
  • Identify how customers think about a problem

The new integrated Ovid Term Finder tool allows users to quickly and easily build a complex search strategy (incorporating MeSH Subject headings, Used for Terms, Scope Note, Subheadings, Permuted Index and UMLS Terms) without leaving the advanced search mode of Ovid Medline.  And the new Search Sharing options (currently in Beta) allows users to seamlessly share search strategies with colleagues, allowing the recipient to rerun the search with one click.

Ovid Search Builder and Ovid Discovery were also briefly described as well as planned new Ovid features scheduled for 2021 release.
