Community Announcements

We are looking for SLA members who are interested in getting more involved in the SLA Science-Technology Community by joining the Executive Board.

Being an Executive Board member, it is a great way to get to know your colleagues and to participate in the great learning and networking opportunities throughout the USA and worldwide.

We welcome you to nominate yourself or others for the positions that are open so that we can have a very active and involved Board and provide the best services to our members. Please do not be shy about telling us that you want to serve in any of the positions that are open or suggesting others who you think can make a contribution to the SLA Science-Technology Community Board.

Executive Board positions vacant are listed below.

* President Elect- one Post for 2024 – 2026 (shall serve as President -Elect in 2024, followed by 1 year as President in 2025 and as Immediate Past President in 2026).

* Secretary - one Post for 2024 – 2025 (two year renewable term).


The duties for the position are listed below.

[President]
Chair of the Executive Board & Advisory Board, Ex-Officio member of all operational committees (except Nominations)
(3 years commitment as President-elect, followed by President and the Immediate Past President)

Duties:            

During President -Elect Year:

Learns as much as possible about the operation of the Community. 
Assists the Community President with program planning and execution as needed.
Substitutes for the Community President as needed.
Recruits Advisory Board members to serve during their presidency, if desired.
Attends SLA's Community Forum meetings, and other Association meetings (e.g., Open Board meetings, Annual Business Meeting, etc.) as possible.
The Community President-Elect serves as the Co-Chair of the Conference Planning Committee for the Conference at which he or she will be Chair. 


While President:

Oversees the direction of the Community.
Attends SLA's Community Forum meetings, and other Association meetings (e.g., Leadership Symposium, Open Board meetings, Annual Business Meeting, etc.) as possible.
Plans and executes programs and activities which support the overall mission of SLA and deliver value and benefits to members.
Works with related organizations and/or other Communities to co-host events.
Defines event-related milestones and methods for managing them.
Finds creative methods to keep volunteers informed and engaged.
Ensures that learning content created by the Community is uploaded into the SLA Learning Hub.
Compiles the annual reports from the Community's active committees, writes an overall annual report for the community, and submits the overall report to SLA and to the Science Technology Community at large.
 

During Immediate Past-President (one-year term)

During Immediate Past-President Year:

Provides guidance and advice about the operation of the Community.
Assists the Community President with program planning and execution as needed.
Chairs the Nomination Committee, helps with elections and the call for nominations.
Substitutes for the Community President as needed.
Recommends Advisory Board members to serve during their presidency, as needed.
Attends SLA's Community Forum meetings, and other Association meetings (e.g., Open Board meetings, Annual Business Meeting, etc.) as possible.


[Secretary] (two year renewable term)

Records and distributes minutes of the Community's business meetings, including the annual business meeting.
Conducts official correspondence and maintains a file of current records as requested by the President.
Periodically reports to SLA headquarters, e.g., submitting Community expense requests.
At the end of the Association year, uploads archival material into the Community library in SLA Connect (and transfers it to the Community's Archivist, if applicable)

The Nomination Committee will contact candidates for clarification/confirmation of their willingness to accept the nomination, if necessary.

Depending on the outcome of the nomination process, an election will be conducted if needed.

We look forward to hearing from you with your nominations or any questions that you may have about the nominating process or the positions that are available. Your understanding and cooperation will be highly appreciated

Nominations are open until Sunday, 04 February, 2024.

A maximum of two candidates will be identified/retained for one position.

If required, an election will be held via electronic ballot.
