The recent SLA PHT 2019 meeting brought up several important questions for special libraries to consider. Some of these include:
How can libraries engage in data visualization?
What are challenges and opportunities for a library during mergers and acquisitions?
What is the library’s role in copyright compliance?
Is it better to have a good job or a good manager?
Do you need to be a subject matter expert to participate in Competitive Intelligence?
What opportunities exist outside the library for those with library backgrounds and skillsets?  Discussion of career paths to get to current position?
How to evaluate resources and when is it needed to have overlapping coverage? What is role of IT in the process?
How small can or should SLA chapters be? - Amy Lestition Burke, Executive Director of SLA offered support to smaller SLA chapters (including those with single digit membership encouraging them to continue to meet under the umbrella of SLA)
What is the process for merging SLA divisions?  - PHT and DBIO are in discussions on whether to merge

Please come discuss these or other key topics related to the present and future of special librarianship and SLA!

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions
Regards,

 Dennis
