  • 1.  Do you know of any "content type" or "format" lists or controlled vocabularies in Spanish?

    Hello all,
I am looking for existing Linked Open Data or other sources of lists to identify Spanish labels equivalent to my English language taxonomy facets of:

Content Types (my scope note below):
Dublin Core Metadata Initiative Definition:  The nature or genre of the resource.

Note that this element is to show the basic intellectual format of the material.  Ideally, the list will contain items that would be recognizable as a type of publication or content that spans multiple organizations.  Examples include: books, images, interactive resources.  Best practice is to use a standard vocabulary like this: http://dublincore.org/documents/dcmi-type-vocabulary/.  This tree is based in part on this guidance, as well as on MARC Genre.

    and
    Formats (my scope note below):
Dublin Core term name format. Definition: The file format, physical medium, or dimensions of the resource.
Comment: Examples of dimensions include size and duration.  Recommended best practice is to use a controlled vocabulary such as the list of Internet Media Types [MIME].

After looking at the LC linked open data, I did search in Bartoc, and the closest thing I found is with some utility is: Librarianship and Documentation Thesaurus: https://bartoc.org/en/node/989.

Thanks for any hints or directions!

    Hello, Edee.

I don't know if you have found an answer to your questions yet. I thought I would suggest looking at the pages you are referencing in Chrome and then translate to Spanish. This may help identify some of your terms. I am a fluent Spanish speaker and find that the translations are pretty good when looking at a whole page of information.

I also Googled "Dublin Core en espanol" to see what happens, and found this page: http://www.hipertexto.info/documentos/dublin_core.htm#:~:text=El%20conjunto%20de%20elementos%20de,significado%20sem%C3%A1ntico%20a%20los%20mismos.

I am sure there are other useful results in that same search.

I don't know if this is what you were looking for, but perhaps this will work?  The UNESCO thesaurus is also available in Spanish.

Thank you both, Marcia and Kathy!

Now that I see the UNESCO page, I suspect I have that bookmarked somewhere. That will be a huge help. And yes, I have noticed the Chrome translation option.

Both my reference to Heather Hedden's Accidental Taxonomist, and my exposure to an excellent talk at Taxonomy Boot Camp London a few years back, make me cautious in approaching multilingual taxonomy work. These resources will help me gain some confidence as I try to reinforce that machine translation alone is likely to be fraught with challenges.

You might also try the eurovoc from the European office of official publications publishing at least 27 different languages.
