Hi all! I am a taxonomist and metadata SME at a health care and insurance organization (Kaiser Permanente). My team oversees the content strategy for patient-facing digital resources (articles about health conditions, support content about navigating the health care system, wellness lifestyle content). Up until this point, we've used a home-grown taxonomy to classify this content to improve search and personalized delivery of the content. However, with a subject domain as complex and well-documented as health care, I'm considering adopting a licensed or open source taxonomy or thesaurus to streamline our metadata efforts.
Would anyone be willing to share about their experience using a set of taxonomies from somewhere like Gale or Wand within the health care domain, or have used open source standards like SNOMED CT or MeSH? I like the idea of using SNOMED CT, but it's for a more clinical research audience and there's also the challenge of formatting it to import into our taxonomy management tool.
Thanks!
