Taxonomy community dinner at SLA conference?

I think there is usually organized a no-host dinner by the Taxonomy Community, open to anyone interested, on one of the evenings of the conference. I have not heard of anything? I know attendance will be lighter, but dinner of even just four people together is still nice. In fact, when we have very large groups, spread out over two tables, we don't have the chance to talk with anyone. Will the Taxonomy Community organize it? I would like to attend.

    Hi Heather H,

This is Heather K. I don't believe that a no-host dinner is scheduled for this year. Like you, I would love to join a meet up. The best times for me would be lunch on either Sunday, August 31, or Tuesday, August 2.

Who else is coming to Charlotte? Chime in if you are!

I won't make it this year.

I'm flying up to Minnesota for a family reunion that week.

Hope you all have a good time!

    Sincerely,

    Liz

    Heather K,

You suggested lunch instead of dinner. Do we know what food service the conference provides? Does it provide lunch on any days?

    Hi Heather H,

Yes, I *believe* that they will be providing lunch in or near the exhibit hall. Let's plan on finding a table together, how does that sound?

    Hi Heather K.

Yes, we can plan on having lunch together at the conference. Suggest a day
But I would still, additionally like to propose a dinner for those who are free on one of the evenings.

Meanwhile, it will soon be time for you to organize the no-host dinner at Taxonomy Boot Camp in Washington, DC, for Sunday evening, November 6. That will surely have good taxonomist turnout since it's a dedicated taxonomy conference. You've done a good job of organizing that before.

    Hi Heather,

I did put a Tax Division No-Host Dinner in the original presentation proposal, and it was accepted, but somehow it didn't make it on the schedule. I think we can plan something informally through SLA Connect, though, and once we decide on day/time/place we can put it in SLA Connect and/or Taxonomy Times, if we get that out in time.

I wouldn't mind sticking with the traditional first night -- a dinner at maybe 7:00 PM Saturday night. I'll be busy on Sunday and not sure when I'll be heading out on Tuesday, so Saturday night would be my first preference but I'm flexible!

That's right, the first night has been the most common date.

Unfortunately, since nothing was planned in advance, I booked my flight in on Sunday morning.

I tried to create a Doodle poll, but the application was default making me, the poll creator, available all of the days, and I am not available all days.

If anyone else on this list wants to attend a no-host taxonomist dinner in in Charlotte and is available at least Saturday - Monday nights and wishes to set up a Doodle poll for three nights, please do so.

I'm not going to conference this time around, but I missed the taxonomy dinner in Baltimore in 2018 because it was scheduled for the first night and I wasn't arriving till later that evening.

The first night may not be the best night for a lot of folks.

    Just my two cents.

    Sincerely,

    Liz

    Doodle poll open!

Location is TBD, there are a lot of restaurants around the convention center. I put in options for lunch on a couple of days, too, just in case.

    HI Heather,

    Thanks.
I assume you have the time zone wrong. Although it says Eastern, the lunch is 2:00 - 3:00 and the dinner is 9:00 - 10:00. Did you mean 12:00 - 1:00 and 7:00 - 8:00 pm?

Thanks for creating the poll, Heather! I'm on PTO this week but I will check to see the results!

I'm reposting the Doodle poll link: https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/b8qv3Jod

I'll leave this open for another week or so.

Hoping more Taxonomists can join us!
