Call to Action

Introduction
Blockchain technology is impacting a variety of sectors, but its potential for the information science sector needs more exploration. This working group, formed by the SLA Toronto and Prescient Innovations, aims to demonstrate leadership with this emerging technology by defining how blockchain and its related technologies can be applied to the field of information science.

Purpose
To understand and describe the best uses of blockchain technology as applied to information science.

Duration and Time Commitment
• Six months from the inaugural meeting
• In-person meetings every two weeks with remote options available
• Hours per week time commitment to be determined

Scope
1. Define current issues for information professionals and their customers/patrons
2. Research current blockchain applications and determine their applicability to information science
3. Determine which issues currently faced by information professionals are appropriate use cases for blockchain technology
