    Hi UNYSLAers,

I want to introduce myself as your SLA Board Liaison. A little about me -- this is my first year on the SLA Board as a Director, I've been involved with the SLA New York community for five years (I live in Queens), and I work at the 4A's (American Association of Advertising Agencies) conducting reference services and leading the digital library for our members. I would love to hear a little about you and the work you do for your community!

Please email me if you have any questions, issues, or need any help. I'll do my best to answer and/or get you in touch with the right people. As your Board Liaison, I plan on sharing SLA news/info/updates when they come up. I'll post in the discussion feature going forward.

I did contact Allison Perry about making some noise in 2023! Let me know of any upcoming events -- I'd love to join, help out, promote any way I can.

Also, I wanted to share the following upcoming virtual events that might be of interest.

A Day in the Life: Panel Discussion with Corporate Librarians

Wednesday, March 15 at 4-5pm ET

SLA members Helen Sobolik, Lead, Research and Data Services at Bain & Company; Stan Friedman, Head Research Librarian at Condé Nast; and I are going to talk about our day-to-day work life as corporate librarians. This is in partnership in the Metropolitan NY Library Council (METRO). Register here.

    SLA-NY Librarian Roundtable

Wednesday, March 22 at 6:30-7:30pm ET

This event provides a space for members to discuss issues and trends in the library field, as well as ask others about projects, procedures, recommendations, and general advice. I host this event and plan to discuss benefits and challenges of library service surveys. Register here.

Volunteer Leadership Training Series | Session Two: Volunteer and Member Engagement

Tuesday March 28 at 12-1pm ET

Board member Kendra Levine and I are going to go over basics of engaging volunteers and members. This is more of a forum for community leaders to share ideas and tips that work. Register here.

SLA-NY just hosted an event with the Lenape Center focusing on Living Land Acknowledgements. We're starting to work on updating our living land acknowledgement statement and opening up the process to anyone who's interested. The details are still being worked on, but reach out if you'd like to participate. Our event was not recorded, but the NYPL had an event on Monday with the Lenape Center. You can check it out here: The Land We're On: Living Lenapehoking | The New York Public Library (nypl.org)

    Talk soon!

    Christine,

Thanks for the introduction. Glad to see the activity of the NYC community.

There are a few of us in the Upstate, who would like to get this region active again. In the past, there have been one-day conferences, after-work socials, and more. I don't know how spread out we are in the region or which area Upstate has the most SLA members.  Is that something that you could help us understand?

    Hi Jill,

I can help you better understand where your members located. A member needs to be made a community admin to access to more a detailed member report. Let me know if you or someone else would like to be added as UNYSLA's admin. Multiple people can be admin, so you're aware. I can put you in touch with SLA members Chrissy Geluk and Sam Russell, who are our wonderful Super Admins who can grant those privileges.

Once you have those privileges, I can share directions on how to get to the member report -- it's not that intuitive.

    Best,

    Christine

Thanks! I think @Allison Perry might be interested in being the community manager. Allision, what do you think?

    Hi @Jill Hurst-Wahl and @Allison Perry,

Following up to see who I should make a community administrator for UNYSLA so you can access info about your members. Both of you can be admins too!

    Thanks,
    Christine
